During the first 30 days the fragile antenna fell off. Went to AT&T store but they refused to replace it for “physical damage”. Very nice of Amazon, I got a replacement in 30 days.
When I signed up in July 2008, I chatted with AT&T rep online and was told the 5G usage limit was a “soft” limit, AT&T would not enforce it, not to mention at that time the contract does not mention over usage charge. In February 2009, I found AT&T started charging penalty twice as much as Verizon does for over usage. I had to cancel it and got 29 day fee in advance for I canceled on the first day of the next billing cycle, thanks to AT&T since their cancellation department closes on weekend. I also have a early termination fee coming.
I called in AT&T several time to have the card unlocked so I can use it with other carriers or overseas but they told me they can only unlock card with an active SIM card so my card is dead.
AT&T coverage is not as good as Verizon’s CDMA network. The so called “3G” is a fake. It is the half speed compared with CDMA. The very reason for me to get AT&T is the unlimited use. Now the deal is AT&T charges double penalty for usage over 5G than competitors.
Action item: will take the collection letters and dead air card to small claim court because AT&T altered the contract and failed to unlock the aircard as my private property.

This is a GREAT wireless card. It has the option for the AT&T connect OR other free wireless signals. FAST as well!! I get a signal EVERYWHERE I GO!!

Works maybe 60% times without any hassle, and when it’s working it’s awesome. It flies.
But sometimes, *in the same places you’ve used it before without a hitch (e.g. same towers)* seemingly at random it will refuse to pick up 3G connections — even when other devices on the same AT&T network right beside it can continue using 3G data (e.g. iPhone & Blackberry). This will manifest itself in one of two ways:
1. It won’t see the 3G, only EDGE.
2. It won’t see any network at all — not even EDGE.
Usually, you can get the card to find 3G or EDGE after pulling the card and reinserting it multiple times, which is *incredibly* frustrating.
It’s not just my card, one of my co-workers had the same issues. It’s unfortunate this card doesn’t work 100% of the time because mobile broadband truly is a gift from heaven.

I live six miles from a DSL cut off in Missouri. That means a dead zone for high speed Internet. My only options are dish, dial up and this card. I opted for the card so I didn’t have to sign a new contract with a satellite company (or have trees cut down to “see” the signal).
This card isn’t bad, but the service is TERRIBLE.
The card itself will wear out a bit and become shaky in the slot, so be careful as you insert. Also, be careful with the antenna, because it will get loose and wobbly after use,
This was sold to me as a high speed Internet connection comparable with DSL. Boy, was I dumb when I believed that one!
You must be within 2-3 miles of the tower for this to be a guaranteed work – and that doesn’t always happen. In areas that are supposed to be 3G, I only had 3 bars. (I am not the only person in Missouri who has this issue. It happens in a variety of areas in the state.)
This unit is definitely not high speed. If it is raining, windy, cloudy, you are lucky to 1) get connected in the first place 2) have it stay connected while you work and 3) have it be more than dial up speed – which is it during these conditions. In the last year, it has stopped working even on sunny days. Since I work from home, this is simply a nightmare.
When you are traveling, you are better off paying for a high speed connection in your room, rather than relying on this unit, simply because there is no way to tell if the AT&T network will be up and running. The card itself might work, but the network will not – sometimes a difficult distinction to make when you are frustrated.
When the card does not work, you have to shut down the Internet, take the card out, then put it back in and start over. Sometimes, you have to do this multiple times. Sometimes you have to reboot the computer. Before you contact AT&T customer care, try this, because they will make you do it, anyway. They will also try to get you to say you have an old computer, so they can blame the poor reception on that. (This has happened to me multiple times. They didn’t know what to say when I told them I had a six month old Mac.)
There are also times when the unit says you are connected, but you are not. What this means is that you have a false connect message – something the only AT&T tech person who was decent told me. (Yes, I DID get one good soul who knew what he was talking about.) You need to contact tech support, tell them you have a false connect message and have them walk you through the software to make that stop. Sometimes, that means you need a software update.
This information also applies to the USB Sierra Wireless unit, which I use now with my Mac. That software is not created by AT&T, so the less experienced tech support folks will tell you that it is their issue. Most times, it isn’t. Only once for me, when I needed a software upgrade. The rest of the time is problems with AT&T deplorable network.
A Sierra Wireless customer rep told me I was at the mercy of my carrier – which I had already figured out after several frustrating calls to AT&T’s terrible technical support.
This also applies to both PC and Mac.
If you have a choice, PLEASE consider service with another company. If you are stuck in an AT&T monopoly, as I am, then try to find a cheap used unit in good shape, or purchase one of the generics to save you cash. Don’t spend a ton on this – and definitely avoid the two-year obligation if you can.
