Prior to the purchasing the Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881, my wireless life was tethered to Starbucks and T-Mobile HotSpots. Though I pay approx. $60/month through my AT&T Wireless (née Cingular) contract, I view my ‘real’ cost as less half that because (a) I was able to drop my monthly $29.95 T-Mobile contract and (b) I’m not making as many impulse buys loitering around Starbucks. Sorry, Howard.
In order to obtain the best levels of reliability, I do recommend you obtain the most up-to-date device drivers and the ‘3G Watcher’ application from the Sierra Wireless website. I’d been troubled by perplexing disconnects before I did that, often requiring a reboot or re-install. Since getting the latest drivers, it’s been very smooth sailing. [It's worth noting I have Vista. Enough said.]
